We are back again with the Conversation Series! This series presents you with Crucial Conversations At Midlife and a questionnaire guide to help you tackle these often difficult conversations.
Today's article focuses on Racing Against The Social Clock.
You often hear the saying - Time and tide wait for no man.
Well, this is very true. It simply means that whether you take advantage of it or not, there will always be 24 hours and 1,440 minutes in a day.
What do you spend your time doing?
Once you reach midlife, the realisation dawns on you that you are at the transitioning stage to the shades of grey (old age).
Ask yourself this question, which group will I belong to when I die?
Will I be part of those that look back on their life with regret; statements of "Had I Known" or "I wish I could go back in time"
Or will I be fulfilled knowing that I made the best use of my time and left a legacy behind?
Before you get to that end stage, have this crucial conversation with yourself. Ask these questions now:
Discovery
What is the vision for my life?
What are my short-term and long-term goals?
Do I have monthly, quarterly, and yearly targets? If yes, assess them using the SMART objective matrix - Are my targets Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, & Time-bound?
What do I want to be remembered for?
What can I do to help the people around me and positively impact their lives?
Assessment
Am I where I want to be in life?
Have I accomplished what I wanted to accomplish?
What do I do with the time I have now?
Do I have a legacy to leave or even want one?
How many lives have I impacted positively?
Make sure to be as honest as possible when answering these questions. When you are able to do that, we believe you will be set on the right track in the journey of building a long-lasting legacy.
