Women Going Back To Work Series: A Letter from Your Unborn Child

Most women look forward to the 9 months of pregnancy and the sweet pain of delivery, after which they hold their newborn baby in their arms. The next few months after delivery are a whirlwind of emotions—sleep deprivation, overwhelming love, hints of frustration, and a strong urge to protect. Though a whirlwind, you would not trade this period for anything.

But now, it has come to an end, and it is time to return to work. What do you do? You have grown attached to your newborn, and the very thought of leaving your baby for an hour is unthinkable, much less 8-10 hours.

Welcome to the start of our “Women Going Back To Work” series!

Today’s post is somewhat different from our usual posts. Today, we bring you a letter to every mother—from your unborn child.

From Your Unborn Child

Mummy, mummy, I’m so glad to be here.

My little life has already begun.

And though it’s a while till you see me appear,

Mummy, mummy, I’m having such fun!

Mummy, mummy, my heart has started to beat!

My blood coursing round

It’s a wonderful thing laying here in the heat

Listening to your every sound.

Mummy, mummy, I’ve now got fingers & toes

And the makings of my smile

And now I have a bump—I think it’s a nose.I’ll open my eyes in a while.

.Mummy, mummy, I’m growing bigger now

And stronger every day

Kicking & stretching my arms & legs

Letting you know I’m okay.

Mummy, mummy, I do love you

I can’t wait to see your face

To know your softness next to mine

And feel your warm embrace.

Mummy, mummy, why did you shout so loud?

Who was it you were talking to?

You didn’t seem too pleased to me

I’m sorry if I’ve hurt you.

Mummy, mummy, where are you taking me?

There are many strange voices I hear

Something is not right, I can feel you pushing

I’m scared but just grateful you’re here.

Mummy, mummy, there are hands trying to pull me

Tell them I’m getting ready

My eyes have not opened but my heart is very strong

Mummy, please tell them I’m coming.

Mummy, mummy, I feel this light all over me

I feel a life has just begun

You are holding me and cuddling me

Mummy, mummy, why do you love me so much?
